12 Weeks

Just for fun I thought I'd start documenting my growing belly and pregnancy highlights periodically from here on out. I'm 12 weeks now and nearing the end of my first trimester, which seems so crazy to me! I have a very active little boy who keeps me on my toes constantly and the time feels like it's flying by this time around.

I definitely started showing much quicker this time, which I hear is pretty typical after your first baby. I had a noticeable baby bump beginning around week 7 or 8, and I had to break out the maternity clothes at week 10. I'm still in that uncomfortable stage where I feel like it's still questionable to strangers if I'm pregnant or just one of those girls who doesn't realize that she's outgrown her clothes by 2 or 4 sizes and still sadly squeezes into her much too tight wardrobe. I hate going in my closet every day to get dressed because everything I put on makes me feel claustrophobic and I have to resist the urge to put on Rick's shirts. Something about being pregnant makes me hate the feel of clingy clothes and it's so hard to find comfortable stuff to wear. I'm already saying this at 12 weeks? Sheesh, I think there's a long, uncomfortable journey ahead of me, ha!

My circumstances are a lot different this time so it's kind of hard to compare, but I'd say that so far this pregnancy has been pretty similar to my first. I'm still getting sick a lot and feeling sick pretty much all the time, but Harrison has been a great distraction and a huge blessing to help take my mind off of it. I'm also very fortunate to be in the comfort of my own home this time around without the long commutes, sitting in an office chair all day, and wearing high heels and business suits. The main difference between the two pregnancies has been that I've been hit with so much non-pregnancy-related sickness this time. With Harrison, I didn't get a single cold or virus the entire 9 months (which if you know me, you know this is HUGE because going 9 months without getting sick is probably a record for me). With Chicklet, however, I have come down with 2 stomach viruses, a severe upper respiratory infection, and what feels like pneumonia (I'll hopefully be going to the doctor tomorrow for an official diagnosis) in just the course of the last 6 weeks. It's been challenging to say the least, but what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? I like to think so.

Pregnancy Highlights: Making it through the first trimester!

How Far Along: 12 weeks

Size of baby: Chicklet is the size of a lime.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I have an OB appt tomorrow and will get my official weigh in, but I am guessing I haven't gained much or may have even lost since I can't keep much food down.

Maternity Clothes: A little bit of both.

Gender: Don't know yet. The moment I found out I was pregnant I just KNEW it was a girl, but now I'm doubting my instincts. I honestly will be happy with either! We will find out in 4-6 weeks or so.

Movement: I thought I might have felt movement a couple of days ago, but now I'm thinking maybe it was just gas :)

Sleep: Not much. I've been having a hard time falling asleep and then staying asleep. Doesn't help that I can't breath. =/

What I miss: Food! And nursing Harrison, but I would be weaning him now anyway.

Cravings: Coke! I have no idea why because I am not really much of a soda drinker usually. It makes my stomach feel a million times better but I am limiting myself to no more than two cans a day because of the caffeine.

Symptoms: The usual...nausea, vomiting, gagging brought on by my hound dog sense of smell, exhaustion, etc.

Best Moment this week: Harrison's birthday party. It was an emotional day already and just imagining what life is going to be like next year with two little blessings made my heart swell with excitement and gratitude. I so look forward to watching my babies grow up together!
