Party for a Prince

Harrison's birthday party was on Saturday and I wanted to share some of the pictures from the fun day.

Here are some of the decorations:

Birthday wreath

Just waiting for the cake!

12 months of Hare-bear

Decoupage letters

Monthly portraits

His royal throne

Here's the buh-eautiful cake my lovely SIL made. You can't tell in this picture, but the icing actually sparkled!

Gorgeous! I hated to cut into it. Then I tasted it, and was very glad I cut into it.

And the smashing smash cake she made for the birthday boy (which you will later see that he found quite tasty):

The Before

And now for the pictures of the party:
Isn't this hat just adorable (Thanks, Tracye!) Harrison wasn't quite as much of a fan, though...

He wasn't a fan of this one, either.

No, I won't smile with Pappy. Must. Get. Hat. Off!

Showing off his new mode of transportation

Let the eating begin

Can't tell I'm exhausted at all, huh? ;)

Next, it was time for cake. Mmmm...cake....

Why are all of these people staring at me?

And singing at me? Somebody is way off key...

Momma blowing out the candle and making a wish (for time to slow down).

What is this interesting new flavor you call "sugar?"

Hmmm. I think I might like it!

Let's taste a little more to be sure.

Hands just aren't efficient enough for this goodness. Face plant!

I'm not sure I'm making a big enough mess here.

I'm starting to feel a little sick...

Why is my tummy hurting?! I only ate 5 lbs of cake...

The After
After the royal scrub down, it was time to open presents! Harrison had a little help with this activity, whether he wanted it or not. :)

Here are the favors we handed out as people left:

All in all, it was a great day. I think the final headcount was around 29 people! Thanks to everybody who helped out to make the party go smoothly and to everybody who came to wish our little guy a happy first birthday. He is one very loved baby, that's for sure!

Star sighting...well, kind of.

So guess who we ran into at my OB appointment this morning?

Mike Barajas
Mike Barajas, Fox 26

We were on the crowded (and really slow) elevator when I heard a lady say, "Are you Bill?" And then "Bill" responded by saying, "No, I'm Mike Barajas, Fox 26." I don't usually watch Fox news (and apparently the lady who thought Mike was Bill doesn't watch too frequently, either), but once I looked up I did recognize him. He was nice and even paid Harrison a compliment by telling him he was a very handsome little boy (which, sidenote, earns big points in my book because even still at almost a year some people still mistake him as a girl. Even when he's very obviously dressed like a boy. Sometimes he actually even has the word "boy" on his shirt.) I'm not sure if a news anchor qualifies as a star sighting but considering my human interaction is somewhat limited these days, I'm going to go ahead and count it.  :)

Speaking of my OB appointment, I got to hear Chicklet's heartbeat for the first time today! Dr. Klein turned and asked Harrison what he thought about it and Harrison had the most disgusted look on his face. Guess he's not too happy about the upcoming competition. Ha ha! Or, maybe it's just because he's cutting not one, not two, not three, but FOUR teeth all at the same time. He's been quite the little crab lately, which is of course understandable, but still makes his momma reeeeally flustered when he screams the entire time in the packed waiting room. Teeth, hurry up!

Baby's first Thanksgiving!

So this was officially Harrison's last "first" in terms of holidays. He was due on Thanksgiving day last year but decided on a fashionably late arrival instead.

The traditional Turkey Day meal is my absolute favorite meal. And the leftovers....don't get me started on the leftovers. Remember Ross's huge mental breakdown on Friends when someone stole his turkey sandwich? Well let me just say that I can totally relate to him and his love for the Thanksgiving leftovers!

I think it's safe to say that Thanksgiving food was a hit with Harrison as well.

I got stuck had the privilege of sitting at the kiddie table this year. Good thing I love, love, love the kids at the kiddie table. They were worth the seating chart demotion.

Stephanie and Hunter stayed at our house. We have this fun tradition of moving our mattress into the living room and having a big sleepover out there. Stephanie has apparently outgrown this activity though and opted for the guest bedroom instead (which can really no longer be called that since it is soon to become nursery #2). The next morning was filled with the boys doing this:

I think Rick is zoning out the most...

... to Sesame Street no less!
And Stephanie pretty much did this all morning long:

We had a great holiday. I am very grateful every day but I love Thanksgiving because it is a conscious reminder to count and reflect on each and every blessing that God has given me. I really feel the need to pinch myself sometimes!

12 Weeks

Just for fun I thought I'd start documenting my growing belly and pregnancy highlights periodically from here on out. I'm 12 weeks now and nearing the end of my first trimester, which seems so crazy to me! I have a very active little boy who keeps me on my toes constantly and the time feels like it's flying by this time around.

I definitely started showing much quicker this time, which I hear is pretty typical after your first baby. I had a noticeable baby bump beginning around week 7 or 8, and I had to break out the maternity clothes at week 10. I'm still in that uncomfortable stage where I feel like it's still questionable to strangers if I'm pregnant or just one of those girls who doesn't realize that she's outgrown her clothes by 2 or 4 sizes and still sadly squeezes into her much too tight wardrobe. I hate going in my closet every day to get dressed because everything I put on makes me feel claustrophobic and I have to resist the urge to put on Rick's shirts. Something about being pregnant makes me hate the feel of clingy clothes and it's so hard to find comfortable stuff to wear. I'm already saying this at 12 weeks? Sheesh, I think there's a long, uncomfortable journey ahead of me, ha!

My circumstances are a lot different this time so it's kind of hard to compare, but I'd say that so far this pregnancy has been pretty similar to my first. I'm still getting sick a lot and feeling sick pretty much all the time, but Harrison has been a great distraction and a huge blessing to help take my mind off of it. I'm also very fortunate to be in the comfort of my own home this time around without the long commutes, sitting in an office chair all day, and wearing high heels and business suits. The main difference between the two pregnancies has been that I've been hit with so much non-pregnancy-related sickness this time. With Harrison, I didn't get a single cold or virus the entire 9 months (which if you know me, you know this is HUGE because going 9 months without getting sick is probably a record for me). With Chicklet, however, I have come down with 2 stomach viruses, a severe upper respiratory infection, and what feels like pneumonia (I'll hopefully be going to the doctor tomorrow for an official diagnosis) in just the course of the last 6 weeks. It's been challenging to say the least, but what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? I like to think so.

12 week belly shot

Pregnancy Highlights: Making it through the first trimester!

How Far Along: 12 weeks

Size of baby: Chicklet is the size of a lime.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I have an OB appt tomorrow and will get my official weigh in, but I am guessing I haven't gained much or may have even lost since I can't keep much food down.

Maternity Clothes: A little bit of both.

Gender: Don't know yet. The moment I found out I was pregnant I just KNEW it was a girl, but now I'm doubting my instincts. I honestly will be happy with either! We will find out in 4-6 weeks or so.

Movement: I thought I might have felt movement a couple of days ago, but now I'm thinking maybe it was just gas :)

Sleep: Not much. I've been having a hard time falling asleep and then staying asleep. Doesn't help that I can't breath. =/

What I miss: Food! And nursing Harrison, but I would be weaning him now anyway.

Cravings: Coke! I have no idea why because I am not really much of a soda drinker usually. It makes my stomach feel a million times better but I am limiting myself to no more than two cans a day because of the caffeine.

Symptoms: The usual...nausea, vomiting, gagging brought on by my hound dog sense of smell, exhaustion, etc.

Best Moment this week: Harrison's birthday party. It was an emotional day already and just imagining what life is going to be like next year with two little blessings made my heart swell with excitement and gratitude. I so look forward to watching my babies grow up together!

I heart Shutterfly.

And who doesn't? It's hard not to love those super easy-to-make photo books and their great selection of Christmas cards, invitations, and other fun photo products. I've already made 3 books in just the last 6 months, which proves three things: 1) I take way too many pictures of my baby, 2) I am an obnoxious parent who overshares pictures of my baby, and 3) photo books make great gifts for people who don't mind my obnoxiousness and also enjoy looking at pictures of my baby.  :)

Anyway, I was really excited when I heard that Shutterfly was offering 50 free holiday cards to bloggers. If you are a blogger and are interested in learning how, go here.

I am really looking forward to ordering Christmas cards this year. We had our first family portrait taken and Harrison in a red argyle sweater is just totally irresistible. Now I need to decide on a card design. Here are just a few that I'm considering:

Pretty Poinsettia - I like the traditional look of this card.

Red Revamped - This modern square card caught my eye.

Count Your Blessings - I like the contemporary colors and message on this card.

There are lots of great designs to choose from. Go ahead and browse away (here, here, and here are good places to start), because Christmas is sneaking up!
