9 Months

Hadley turned 9 months old on the 3rd...which was now almost a month ago, but better late than never, right?

She weighed 21 lbs., 2 oz. (90th percentile) and was 27 1/2 inches long (50th percentile).

She is wearing mostly 12-18 month clothes and a size 4 diaper.

So, Hadley, what have you been up to this month?

You are a busy, BUSY girl and are into everything. Thankfully our house is still baby-proofed from our home study, but it is still not baby proofed enough for you, my adventurous girl. Even when we put you in your walker you still find a way to get into stuff you're not supposed to (not to mention you fly around the house in that thing like you're in a high speed chase).

You are also a daredevil which makes shopping interesting. I wear you in the lille' baby carrier a lot. You love it, but my back doesn't. ;)

you screamed because you wanted out of your car seat and then turned around and tried to climb back in

don't worry mom, the concrete floors probably aren't THAT hard
baby wearing in the summer in Houston...because who doesn't like to sweat out 10 gallons?

You fought it at first, but you have finally settled into a pretty good nap routine. You take one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Sometimes they are only 20 minutes and sometimes they are 2 hours. You were pretty stubborn and even fell asleep sitting up on a few occasions, but now usually I can just lay you on your side and rub your back for a minute and you are good to go with no fussing.

but I'm not tired!!!!

must. not. lie. down.

We have a great bedtime routine down, too. By around 7 or 8, you are ready to end your day and go down easily in your crib. BUT...we are still working on getting you to stay asleep. You slept through the night great when you were younger but now you're up a couple of times and only want your momma. Sometimes you want to nurse but sometimes you just want to cuddle. And since you are sharing a room with your sister, we can't really let you cry it out at 2am so you almost always end up in our bed. Not ideal...your momma is tired, baby girl!

You started eating table food right at 8 months and now that's almost all you will eat. You're not a fan of purees aside from the occasional pouch that you can feed yourself. Forget trying to spoon feed you...someone is quite independent. You are also losing interest in nursing and the longest I can get you to sit still is about 3 or 4 minutes (except in the middle of the night....). We still do 5 nursing sessions a day but I'm about to drop one to see if that helps.

do I have anything on my face?
this is more like it!
you also like to munch on teething wafers

You had your first ear infection this month. You never ran a fever but I was suspicious when you were being a cranky-pants (you are normally a very happy baby) and when you fell asleep in your high chair. Antibiotics and rest did the trick and I enjoyed the sleepy snuggles that you rarely give me anymore these days.

first and only time this has happened

When you are awake you are moving, moving, moving. You crawl at lightning speed and pull up on everything and try to climb in/on/under whatever you can. Such an active and adventurous baby.

catch me if you can

see ya, suckers!

You are developing such a fun and silly personality. You carry things around in your mouth like a dog. You love finding tags on things. You love destroying magazines. You are infatuated with shoes and since I never put them on you, you find everyone else's and try to put them on yourself. You give the cheesiest grins and I just love that you smile with your whole entire face. Sometimes you remind us of those old Bitter Beer Face commercials. the BBF has replaced the RBF you used to sport which I find hilarious. You crack us up, kid.

your brother thought this was the funniest thing ever...thankfully these were clean!

hee hee

You have a few nicknames. Your daddy calls you Claire about 90% of the time. Which drives me nuts, btw, since he was the one that was adamant on choosing your first name. But that's a story for another day, ha! Other names off the top of my head: Hadley Hoo, Haddie Lou, Miss Claire, Claire-Bear, Puppy Dog, Nugget, Happy Baby, Sunshine Girl, Tiny, and Smalls.

And sometimes after bath you are referred to as Thunder Thighs while we squish your adorable naked tushy. The kids also like to serenade you with a catchy tune that they made up, appropriately titled, Junk in Her Trunk.

She's got junk, JUNK! In her trunk, TRUNK! She's got junk in her trunk, she's got junk in her trunk, she's got junk in her trunk, she's got junk, JUNK! In her trunk, TRUNK!

who are you calling fat?

Oh sweet baby, we adore you! It's hard for your mama to comprehend that you've only just been on the outside of my belly for as long as you were on the inside. We had no idea what we were missing out on before you came along. You sure do enrich our lives and fill our hearts. Love you BIG!

baby food challenge

So, this happened last week. I will admit that it wasn't my finest parenting moment, but I just could. not. resist. Oh, the laughter. And tears. From both of us. Or maybe just tears from both of us and laughter from one of us. Either way, it was totally worth it! Or at least until it backfired...all over my freshly mopped floors.

In my defense, I never in a million years thought he'd actually do it. This is a kid who gags weekly at the dinner table at just the thought of eating certain foods. Normal foods. That he's eaten thousands of times with no issue in the past. Oh, this kid. He is a riot. (Disclaimer: In the moment of the food battles I might not exactly be thinking it's funny...)

And now I'm pretty sure I may have dug the Food Battle Hole a little deeper with this stunt. I betrayed his trust and manipulated him with his kryptonite. But boy did he enjoy that bag of candy ;)

GNR and G&R

We had a fun, adultish weekend! Friday night I surprised Rick and took him to see Guns N' Roses for an early birthday gift. I told him I was taking him on a date but wouldn't tell him where...and to throw him off I pulled a little bit of a Clark Kent and wore this shirt over my rocker skull tank:

mama bear by day...party animal by night

I texted that picture to Stacie and then also a bunch of other outfit and shoe options because I'm a poser and never go out and am pretty clueless when it comes to fashion, much less what to wear to a GNR concert. In the end, she voted for this combo so I went with it. She was worried the shoes might give it away but I assured her that Rick would never ever in a million years notice my shoes and correlate them to a rock concert. I once chopped off eight inches of hair and he didn't notice. So I felt pretty confident.

I'd been planning it since April but somehow it still snuck up on me. Before I bought the tickets, my mom had offered to keep Hadley (along with the bigs) overnight and back then 9 months old sounded like no big deal. And then the date got here and I was really anxious about leaving her. I'm always like that about the kids at any age but it's even harder when they're babies and still nursing and total momma's girls. But we all survived! Hadley kept them up from 2-4:30am but we won't dwell on that little detail ;)

Originally, I planned out a triple date with Ben & Stacie and Trina & Dustin. But in the end Trina & Dustin had to cancel because he got stuck out of town for work. Boo! It wasn't the same without them but we all still had so much fun! I wanted to surprise Rick so we tried confusing him as to what we were doing. I hinted here and there about the Astros vs. Rangers game. I wore my mama bear shirt and had uber pick us up from my mom's house to take us downtown to the Flying Saucer. And then the second we got in the car, the uber driver randomly asked if we were going to see Guns N' Roses. Grr!

Long story short, he totally figured it out but played along anyway. He saw someone (my cousin...thanks Michelle!!!) post about the concert on facebook. And then he said when he saw my shoes he knew for sure. GO FIGURE. Ha!!

Rick's (fake) surprise face

It's not Rick's birthday without his beloved cookie cake. Barf! These things are such a waste of money...especially when you give instructions to make it look like the back of an Astros jersey and you pick it up and find this:

But don't worry, the terrible artwork didn't keep him from shoveling it in his mouth like a boss. Ben was in charge of cutting the cake...and this is why we are all such good friends. I'm always laughing when we are hanging out.

my soul sista, drinking her queso, because DUH.

on the metro rail

Guns N' Roses, baby!!!

Now, there's nothing like thinking that going to a rock concert is going to make you feel so young and cool....and then Axl Rose comes out and then instead of feeling young and cool you feel incredibly OLD.

They still sounded the same, though! I was never a hard core fan and only halfway knew the more popular hits. But Rick was pretty dedicated in his earlier years.

These peeps always bring the party.

We walked approximately 27 miles and I quickly remembered why I never wear heels anymore. It didn't help that I had to bring a ginormous purse that weighed a ton because I had to bring my breast pump along. Gah, I'm so lame. We ended our GNR night at none other than Whataburger...because that's where you should end every wild night out, amiright?

****

And now onto the G&R portion of our weekend. Which stands for Gary & Rick. Which considering it was all about a wedding, I probably should have come up with a different title...but that wouldn't have been nearly as catchy.

Gary and Rick are business partners and old friends. Kirby Precision actually has a related company called G&R Drilling...aren't they so cute?? ;) ANYWAY, Gary got married this weekend. Rick was a groomsman, which meant that we got 3 dates in a row! Friday was the concert, Saturday was the rehearsal dinner, and then Sunday was the wedding. Maybe not necessarily romantic date nights per se, but I will gladly take whatever kid-free(ish) nights I can get. I wore heels 3 days in a row, people. That's a pretty big deal.

We brought Hadley with us to the rehearsal dinner but she's still really easy at restaurants. We dumped the bigs off with the Hursts and since they have 4 kids of their own, I wasn't about to ask them to keep the baby, too. And just maybe, I was kind of having Haddie withdrawals from leaving her the night before. I mean, just maybe.

enjoying "date" #2

checking out the bird (??) at the restaurant...she was not so sure

The wedding was really nice. I suck and didn't even get a single picture at the ceremony and only took a couple at the reception. I had intentions of getting one of Rick in his tux beforehand but getting out the door was kind of stressful. Trying to get myself ready, nurse the baby, get everything situated for the babysitter, etc was not exactly fun. But it makes that huge sigh of relief as you get into your quiet and peaceful car all the more enjoyable. I'm not the only one who does that, right?

our "sexy" poses, hahaha

not the best lighting, but here is my handsome fella. He sure does clean up nice.

I wish I would have gotten a better picture of my dress. It's lace and so pretty

We got home and he went straight for the baby :)
