5 Months
Today my baby is 5 months old!
She weighs approximately 15 lbs.
She is about 25 1/2 inches long.
So Harper, what have you been up to this month?
You learned how to blow raspberries and love to do it. It's very cute -- about the only cute thing about all that spit up. I also noticed that you started producing tears last week and it's heart breaking for your mama. But you have also started squealing and making a lot more happy noises. I love hearing all of your precious, joyful sounds!
You reach for toys now and grab objects placed in front of you. And if you can't find any toys you enjoy sucking on your hands. In fact, you have become a finger sucker...not your thumb like most babies, but your index finger. You still take your paci if we force it enough but you prefer that finger of yours. Silly girl!
We tried out the jumperoo for the first time this month and you seem to love it. You like to play with all the toys on it and even jump in it a little bit already.
You have been on such a good routine lately. I feed you every three hours (six times a day) but am about to drop a feed by stretching them out to every four hours since you're about to start on cereal. You are usually such a great sleeper at night but don't seem to need much sleep during the day and nap very little. For the last few days you've been a lot fussier than usual and have been waking up at night again -- I'm hoping that the rice cereal will keep your tummy full so you'll go back to your 12 hour nights. (12 hour nights...you have us spoiled and we are so thankful!) We are also about to transition you from sleeping in your swing to sleeping in your crib. I'm not gonna lie and say I'm not a little scared!
You wear mostly size 3-6 month clothes and wear a size 2 diaper. You are such a little chubster and I love it! We always sing the song from Madagascar 2 to you. In the words of Moto Moto himself: I like 'em big, I like 'em chunky, I like 'em big, I like 'em plumpy!
You are getting strong. Just the other day you sat unassisted like a tripod for about 5 seconds or so. I've never heard of a baby sitting before rolling over but I'm starting to wonder if that's your plan...you can push up but seem to have no interest in rolling. Which is fine with me -- let's keep you immobile as long as possible ;)
Your reflux is still pretty terrible. It doesn't seem to be bothering you though and I'm so thankful for that. After going through the copious volumes of spit up with your brother I am just focusing on the fact that you will outgrow it sooner or later and until then we'll just deal with it. Your Mamaw made you this cute bib that covers your entire body and straps around your ankles -- she knows that a regular bib doesn't cut it for a pro like you!
I have to admit that before you were born I worried if you would get cheated being the second baby. But that hasn't been the case at all. All of your firsts and milestones and stages are just as exciting as they were with our first baby and now that I feel more relaxed and confident as a mom I truly get to just enjoy you. You are a delight and brighten every single one of our days!
Harper, I wake up every morning with a smile knowing that in just a few moments I'll get to see your beautiful face. I can't seem to grab you up into my arms fast enough for my liking. We are so grateful to be your parents and love witnessing the blessing of life through you. You are one very special and loved little girl!

I don't know why my mommy thinks pilates is so hard. These scissor exercises are a breeze! |

I see you've raised the bar and I accept your challenge. Muhahaha! |
