Christmas 2012

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Wait, what? I'm a little late? Not me...I am always punctual. Always. It's not like my family actually makes it a holiday tradition to place bets on how tardy our arrival will be or anything. Nah, they wouldn't do that. I mean, that would make them all a bunch of punks, am I right?

:)

Anyway, I hope you all had a great Christmas and got lots of new year smooches. Rick and I tried really hard to liven it up this year, but alas, we ended up ringing in 2013 in our pajamas watching Netflix. We are wild beasts, I tell you. In our defense, getting a babysitter on NYE proves to be quite challenging. The party we were planning to go to was family friendly but last year we made it a whopping 30 minutes before we packed up our circus and headed back home...and given the rain and mud we elected to skip it this year and instead put our little monsters to bed early and let the sweat-pants-partying begin. Turned out to be a perfect night, if you ask me.

I'm still having a hard time accepting that Christmas is over. So is Harrison. It probably doesn't help that I haven't taken any of our decorations down. Leaving the Christmas tree up all year isn't that tacky, is it? I'm going to be sad to see it go this weekend. Boo.

And since I'm mostly just rambling at this point...without further ado, here is our Christmas 2012 recap. I'm realizing that each year I'm getting lamer and lamer at making it a point to take pictures. There is a chance it's because I usually have my hands full wrangling two toddlers...I mean that's just a slight possibility.

We had the Boyd Christmas with Rick's side of the family the weekend before Christmas.

There were probably 20 or 30 people at the party that I didn't get a single picture of. Most of the kids spent the majority of the time playing outside...which I guess is one of the perks of 70 degree weather in Texas. :)

On Christmas Eve we went to my mom and step-dad's house. My grandparents came down from Oklahoma and my uncle came from Dallas. My brother and his girlfriend were also there. We took my grandparents to the Christmas Eve service at church and then headed back for finger foods and our gift exchange. Once again, I failed miserably at taking pictures.

She loves her new kitchen!

This picture cracks me up. This is his macho, I'm-too-cool-for-your-picture-taking face. Ha!

Later that night, Santa's elves got busy assembling toys and stuffing stockings.

Christmas morning was great. We woke up and opened presents and ate cinnamon rolls and played, played, played. I left my good camera at my Mom & Tim's house so I had to take all of the pictures on my phone (I told you I'm awesome).

Harrison + Whataburger gift card = pure joy
Ready to cook in her new kitchen

Super pumped about the "rocket with boosters" he asked Santa for

Helping Daddy open the present that Harrison picked out for him completely by himself. He was ADAMANT that he wanted to get him some towels because "daddy likes to take showers a lot". So cute!

After breakfast we baked a birthday cake for Jesus

That afternoon we headed back over to visit with family and enjoy a yummy roast dinner.

Say cheese!

Loving all the attention from her great-grandparents

We decorated cookies and a gingerbread house.

And we walked to the park.

We have a tradition of having a slumber party in front of the tree. We all piled onto our mattress in the floor and watched Christmas movies until the kids drifted peacefully finally crashed. It was a little stressful at times since neither one of the kids do well (understatement, ha!) falling asleep outside of their beds, but I'm so glad we stuck it out. I woke up a million times since I was constantly getting kicked in the face, but waking up to the view of my sweet family under the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree was worth it every time.

My grandpa's birthday is the day after Christmas so we are lucky to get to celebrate with him each year. Harrison picked out his birthday present. He wanted them to have matching hats...so matching hats they got.

Hope you had a blessed Christmas as well!

There are so many things that I love about this post.

1. Harrison's fabulous taste in gift-buying. Towels and matching hats? Fabulous!

2. Harper's face smiling in every picture.

3. Your tradition of sleeping under the Christmas tree (which we stole until this year - having house guests makes it weird - ha).

4. The fact that you made Jesus a birthday cake. This one is my favorite! What a precious idea!!!

And finally, if it's any consolation, your NYE was actually more exciting than ours. We did manage to stay awake past midnight, but we were laying in bed, with the lights off, just waiting so we could exchange a peck and roll over and crash. Which is exactly what we did. :)
