GNR and G&R

We had a fun, adultish weekend! Friday night I surprised Rick and took him to see Guns N' Roses for an early birthday gift. I told him I was taking him on a date but wouldn't tell him where...and to throw him off I pulled a little bit of a Clark Kent and wore this shirt over my rocker skull tank:

mama bear by day...party animal by night

I texted that picture to Stacie and then also a bunch of other outfit and shoe options because I'm a poser and never go out and am pretty clueless when it comes to fashion, much less what to wear to a GNR concert. In the end, she voted for this combo so I went with it. She was worried the shoes might give it away but I assured her that Rick would never ever in a million years notice my shoes and correlate them to a rock concert. I once chopped off eight inches of hair and he didn't notice. So I felt pretty confident.

I'd been planning it since April but somehow it still snuck up on me. Before I bought the tickets, my mom had offered to keep Hadley (along with the bigs) overnight and back then 9 months old sounded like no big deal. And then the date got here and I was really anxious about leaving her. I'm always like that about the kids at any age but it's even harder when they're babies and still nursing and total momma's girls. But we all survived! Hadley kept them up from 2-4:30am but we won't dwell on that little detail ;)

Originally, I planned out a triple date with Ben & Stacie and Trina & Dustin. But in the end Trina & Dustin had to cancel because he got stuck out of town for work. Boo! It wasn't the same without them but we all still had so much fun! I wanted to surprise Rick so we tried confusing him as to what we were doing. I hinted here and there about the Astros vs. Rangers game. I wore my mama bear shirt and had uber pick us up from my mom's house to take us downtown to the Flying Saucer. And then the second we got in the car, the uber driver randomly asked if we were going to see Guns N' Roses. Grr!

Long story short, he totally figured it out but played along anyway. He saw someone (my cousin...thanks Michelle!!!) post about the concert on facebook. And then he said when he saw my shoes he knew for sure. GO FIGURE. Ha!!

Rick's (fake) surprise face

It's not Rick's birthday without his beloved cookie cake. Barf! These things are such a waste of money...especially when you give instructions to make it look like the back of an Astros jersey and you pick it up and find this:

But don't worry, the terrible artwork didn't keep him from shoveling it in his mouth like a boss. Ben was in charge of cutting the cake...and this is why we are all such good friends. I'm always laughing when we are hanging out.

my soul sista, drinking her queso, because DUH.

on the metro rail

Guns N' Roses, baby!!!

Now, there's nothing like thinking that going to a rock concert is going to make you feel so young and cool....and then Axl Rose comes out and then instead of feeling young and cool you feel incredibly OLD.

They still sounded the same, though! I was never a hard core fan and only halfway knew the more popular hits. But Rick was pretty dedicated in his earlier years.

These peeps always bring the party.

We walked approximately 27 miles and I quickly remembered why I never wear heels anymore. It didn't help that I had to bring a ginormous purse that weighed a ton because I had to bring my breast pump along. Gah, I'm so lame. We ended our GNR night at none other than Whataburger...because that's where you should end every wild night out, amiright?

And now onto the G&R portion of our weekend. Which stands for Gary & Rick. Which considering it was all about a wedding, I probably should have come up with a different title...but that wouldn't have been nearly as catchy.

Gary and Rick are business partners and old friends. Kirby Precision actually has a related company called G&R Drilling...aren't they so cute?? ;) ANYWAY, Gary got married this weekend. Rick was a groomsman, which meant that we got 3 dates in a row! Friday was the concert, Saturday was the rehearsal dinner, and then Sunday was the wedding. Maybe not necessarily romantic date nights per se, but I will gladly take whatever kid-free(ish) nights I can get. I wore heels 3 days in a row, people. That's a pretty big deal.

We brought Hadley with us to the rehearsal dinner but she's still really easy at restaurants. We dumped the bigs off with the Hursts and since they have 4 kids of their own, I wasn't about to ask them to keep the baby, too. And just maybe, I was kind of having Haddie withdrawals from leaving her the night before. I mean, just maybe.

enjoying "date" #2

checking out the bird (??) at the restaurant...she was not so sure

The wedding was really nice. I suck and didn't even get a single picture at the ceremony and only took a couple at the reception. I had intentions of getting one of Rick in his tux beforehand but getting out the door was kind of stressful. Trying to get myself ready, nurse the baby, get everything situated for the babysitter, etc was not exactly fun. But it makes that huge sigh of relief as you get into your quiet and peaceful car all the more enjoyable. I'm not the only one who does that, right?

our "sexy" poses, hahaha

not the best lighting, but here is my handsome fella. He sure does clean up nice.

I wish I would have gotten a better picture of my dress. It's lace and so pretty

We got home and he went straight for the baby :)
