1 Month

I can't believe a month has flown by! And what a life-changing month of pure goodness it has been.

He weighs in at 10lbs, 10 oz. (70th percentile)

So Harrison, what have you been up to this month?

It has been a month of firsts!

Your first bath. You hated sponge baths, and once your umbilical cord fell off we were sure you would also not be fond of the tub. But we were wrong! You weren't really sure what to think at first, but then you quickly fell in love.

Your first smile! And not because you were leaving us stinkers in your diaper. The first time you looked into my eyes and flashed me your beautiful gums, my heart melted. And the melting continues every day!

Your first snow! Granted, we were still cooped up in the hospital waiting for discharge papers and you slept through it, but still! Snow! In Houston!

What else?

You are eating about 4oz. of breast milk every 2-3 hours. We are still trying to find our groove in the nursing arena, and both of us have had our fair share of frustration. It's okay though, we'll get there soon enough. Until then, you favor the bottle, and that's fine with me. You are still getting all of the benefits of breast milk, I am just having to do twice the work! Good thing you're worth it. ;)

In the first week, you slept ALL the time. We had to wake you up (and keep you up) for your feedings (which also contributed to the nursing issues). Now your philosophy is more like sleep-all-day-and-party-all-night. Yeeeahh, we need to work on that! Our fuel bill is going to be outrageous from all of the late-night drives we take you on in our desperate attempt to get you to fall asleep!

You are not a fan of tummy time. You bob your head from side to side and give us this pitiful look, and then the tears and wailing begin. Your dad has so graciously given you the nickname "Morla" after the giant sneezing turtle from the movie "The NeverEnding Story."

You have apparently inherited allergies from your mom. Sorry about that. You developed a pretty bad case of eczema all over your face and body. We took you in to see the pedi and it looks like the culprit is food-related (which is such a relief, because we were worried it might be the pets). So along with colic and reflux, you potentially have a milk allergy as well. Poor baby! I cut dairy out of my diet and it has appeared to help. Your rash is now completely gone.

You L-O-V-E the lights on the Christmas tree! You stare at them endlessly. We are thinking about leaving the tree up year round since it seems to calm you down when you are mad. Ha!

Harrison, it has only been one short month and we already can't remember what life was like without you. Our love for you is beyond words!
